China to reimpose air fuel surcharge: state media

 a fuel surcharge on domestic flights from the beginning of next month after a nearly eight-month hiatus, state media reported.

The levy on flights of more than 800 kilometres (500 miles) will be 40 yuan (5.9 dollars) per ticket and for shorter routes it will be 20 yuan, the Yangcheng Evening News said.

Some tour agencies have been notified by airlines about the charge, and ticket booking websites are also alerting customers, the report on Wednesday said.

The government scrapped surcharges on domestic flights on January 15 as crude oil prices fell, but said they could be reimposed depending on changes in domestic kerosene kerosene or kerosine, colorless, thin mineral oil whose density is between 0.75 and 0.85 grams per cubic centimeter. A mixture of hydrocarbons, it is commonly obtained in the fractional distillation of petroleum as the portion boiling off  costs.

Some carriers applied for the surcharge to be imposed in late June after Beijing raised domestic air kerosene prices by around 1,000 yuan per tonne, the paper said.

The commission cut retail petrol and diesel price by nearly three percent from Wednesday in line with a decline in global crude oil prices.
