China to Sound Better with Arrival of Audio Innovator Coding Technologies; Inventor of MPEG-4 aacPlus Opens Office in Beijing.

BEIJING -- Europe-based Coding Technologies, the leading provider of audio compression for digital broadcasting, mobile media and the Internet, announced today the planned opening of a representative office in Beijing, China, on August 16. The new office underscores Coding Technologies' commitment to the rapidly growing markets for new media and audio content in China, a country with more than 100 million Internet users and 400 million mobile phone subscribers. Mr. Toni Fiedler has been appointed as chief representative of the new operation.

The flagship product of Coding Technologies, the highly efficient aacPlus audio codec, is the combination of MPEG-4 AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) An audio compression technology that is part of the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards. AAC, especially MPEG-4 AAC, provides greater compression and better sound quality than MP3, which also came out of the MPEG standard.  coupled with Coding Technologies' Spectral Band Replication (audio, compression) Spectral Band Replication - (SBR) Guessing the nontransmitted higher frequency range of a compressed audio file by some helper bits (transmiited with the stream) and the transmitted base band.  (SBR SBR - Spectral Band Replication ) and Parametric Stereo (PS). aacPlus is an integral part of the open MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs).  standard and widely deployed in digital broadcasting, mobile music services, and Internet streaming to deliver the same audio quality at only one quarter of the bit rate used by today's benchmark codec MP3.

"We consider the Chinese audio and new media market as one of the most important growth drivers for our future business," said Martin Dietz, chief executive officer and president of Coding Technologies. "Our goal is to make our technologies more readily available on a local level to Chinese manufacturers, content providers and consumers."

Commenting on the opening of the China office, chief representative Toni Fiedler added, "Coding Technologies is committed to providing high fidelity sound on any digital device, using less space to store more content. aacPlus enables users to really enjoy the quality of content that is increasingly available for their mobile phones, PCs and other consumer devices."

In China, leading music service platform A8 recently agreed to use aacPlus as the default encoding format for downloads to audiophiles. All major handset manufacturers worldwide, including Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, and SonyEriccson, are shipping units with aacPlus capability, enabling mobile device users to enjoy aacPlus content provided by many mobile operators such as KDDI, T-Mobile, and Vodafone.

The representative office is registered in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, with the offices in the Full Tower building on Dongsanhuan directly opposite the new CCTV CCTV

aacPlus is applied to mobile music, mobile radio, digital radio, mobile TV broadcasting, podcasting and content creation, offering the highest quality audio at the lowest possible bit rates for mobile, digital radio and Internet audio distribution.

MPEG-4 HE-AAC = aacPlus v1 = AAC + SBR

MPEG-4 HE-AAC v2 = aacPlus v2 = AAC + SBR + PS

Coding Technologies

Coding Technologies provides the best audio compression for mobile, broadcasting, and Internet. SBR(TM) (Spectral Band Replication) from Coding Technologies is a backward and forward Adv. 1. backward and forward - moving from one place to another and back again; "he traveled back and forth between Los Angeles and New York"; "the treetops whipped to and fro in a frightening manner"; "the old man just sat on the porch and rocked back and forth all  compatible method to enhance the efficiency of any audio codec; putting the "PRO" in mp3PRO and the "Plus" in aacPlus. Parametric Stereo from Coding Technologies and Philips again significantly increases the efficiency of audio codecs for stereo signals at low bit rates.
