Chinese authorities have rejected a claim by the Turkistan Islamic Party An Islamic party is a party that works for promoting Islam while an Islamic political party is a political party that promotes Islam as a political movement by offering nominees for election in a democracy - of which there are several in the Islamic world.  (TIP) that it was responsible for a series of bombings ahead of the Beijing Olympics. The group released a video threatening the Games and claiming responsibility for deadly bus blasts in Shanghai and Kunming, capital of the southwestern province of Yunnan, on July 21.

However, police authorities in Shanghai and in Yunnan, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces on Saturday dismissed the claims.

"The Shanghai blast was caused by inflammables such as oil," Cheng Jiulong, the Shanghai municipal deputy head, said.

"The blast was indeed deliberate but had nothing to do with terrorist attacks."A Yunnan provincial department of public security spokesman, said: "We have noticed media reports about the claims, but so far, no evidence has been found to indicate the explosions were connected with terrorists and their attacks, or with the Beijing Olympics."
