A few days later the ordination ordination: see ministry; orders, holy.  as bishop of another state-church Catholic priest, Liu Xinhong, took place in Anhui province, again against the Vatican's wishes. Liu Xinhong had declined the ordination in February after the Vatican declined to approve it.

The Cardinal also warned the Sino-Vatican dialogue "cannot continue because people will think we are prepared to surrender," he told the South China Morning Post The South China Morning Post, together with its Sunday edition, the Sunday Morning Post, is a English-language newspaper of Hong Kong, with a circulation of 104,000. .

The two bishops ordained by China's state-approved Catholic church, and the two bishops who presided over the consecration without Vatican consent, have been automatically excommunicated. The Vatican strongly criticized the bishops' ordinations, saying they represented a "grave violation of religious freedom" and hindered dialogue between the Vatican and Beijing (CNN.com, May 4, 2006).
