Each of the statements below tells you something about the People's Republic of China. There is just one problem. In each statement, we have made two errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation. Circle or underline each error. Then, on the blank line given, rewrite the statement so it is correct.

STATEMENTS

1. The Great Wall is originally built to protect ancient China from attack buy warrior nomads of Mongolia.

8. About 20 percent of the world's population, lives in China.

9. China's government is trying to limit overpopulation with it's one-child policy, in effect since nineteen 79.

10. Only about 1,600 giant pandas live wild, in there native habit of central China

ANSWERS

1. The Great Wall of China Great Wall of China, fortifications, c.1,500 mi (2,400 km) long, winding across N China from Gansu prov. to Hebei prov. on the Yellow Sea. The wall, running mostly along the southern edge of the Mongolian plain, was erected to protect China from northern nomads. It is an amalgamation of many walls built in ancient times; the first unified wall was built in the 3d cent. B.C. by the Ch'in dynasty. was originally built to protect ancient China from attack warrior nomads of Mongolia.

2. The Forbidden City, site of the palaces of 24 Chinese Emperors,was closed to the public for thousands of years.

3. China's last Emperor was P'u'-i, who ascended to the throne at age 3 and was deposed in 1912, at age 6.
