In a recent tender, Airspan secured two of the most lucrative provinces. The award in Guangzhou is one of the most significant fixed wireless deployment awards of all recently announced. Guangzhou is the capital of the Guangdon province, an area which generates more than 25 percent of Unicom's total revenues.

"We're pleased to begin securing important pieces of business in China," said Henrik Smith-Petersen, Airspan's president of Asia Pacific. "This is an important step with China Unicom and we're looking forward to many more significant milestones as we grow our business in China with the help of our partner, Jinpeng."

Jinpeng's chief executive echoed Smith-Petersen's comments. "China Unicom selected Airspan based on performance and economic benefits," said Mr. Chen zhou Xin, chief executive officer of Jinpeng. "We have a great demand for high-speed wireless access and Airspan's product line is a perfect fit for us. This contract is a sign that deployment of 3.5 GHz technology has really begun in China Unicom and Jinpeng is very confident that together with Airspan we'll secure a large share of these deployments going forward."
