 of China, has inaugurated a new community service program to aid children of unemployed workers in Henan Province and Tianjin.

China Southern Airlines, in alliance with China's Care For The Next Generation Working Committee, will be actively sponsoring children of laid-off workers to study in school and will initiate a series of nationwide "Sunny Children" activities including free schoolbags and other educational supplies.

The announcement was made here in Beijing at The People's Great Hall.

 to action. We must recognize that this is a critical time for our people and for the youth of our next generation," said Yan Zhi Qing, chairman, China Southern Airlines. Yan added, "China Southern Airlines believes in giving back to our community and supporting our nation's youth which is our real future."

Yan added that China Southern Airlines' new community service program, "will not only assist the children of laid-off workers but also gives the more than 17,000 employees of China Southern Airlines the opportunity to act as an active and responsible citizen of China."

Numerous dignitaries were on hand for the announcement at The People's Great Hall, including:

After the announcement and subsequent news conference, Wang of China's Care For The Next Generation Working Committee, said: "The activity, jointly held by the Working Committee and China Southern Airlines, should be a wake-up call to the entire nation. We all need to do more to assist the unemployed. Words alone are hollow."
