China Southern Airlines Announces Mr. Liu Shao Yong As New Chairman.

GUANGZHOU, China -- The Board of Directors of China Southern Airlines (NYSE:ZNH) (HKSE:1055) (SHA:600029) -- www.cs-air.com/en -- the largest airline in The People's Republic of China has accepted the resignation -- with deepest appreciation -- of Mr. Yan Zhi Qing as the Chairman of the Board.

The announcement was made at the first Extraordinary General Meeting for the year 2004.

During Mr. Yan's tenure at China Southern Airlines, China's largest airline experienced unprecedented growth and global expansion, including China Southern's merger with two other Chinese airlines (China Northern Airlines and Xinjiang Airlines); the opening of the ultra-modern Baiyun International Airport, as well as guiding China Southern Airlines into future membership in SkyTeam, the global aviation alliance.

"We have today accepted the proposed resignation of Mr. Yan Zhi Qing as a director of the company and Chairman of the Board for age reasons. China and China Southern Airlines is better today and will be in the future because of his direct and specific responsibilities with our company," said Mr. Su Liang, Company Secretary.

Mr. Su added that, "the shareholders and authorized proxies acknowledged that during Mr. Yan's tenure of directorship, he diligently and faithfully carried out his duties as a director of the Company and actively pursued the various developments plans of the Company. The Company hereby extends its appreciation for Mr. Yan's efforts and contribution to the Company during the tenure of his directorship."

Replacing Mr. Yan at the helm of China's largest airline will be Mr. Liu Shao Yong, as nominated by China Southern Air Holding Company in accordance with the Articles of Association of the Company, as a director of the fourth session of the Board of the Company.

Mr. Liu Shao Yong was born in November 1958 and he joined the Chinese aviation industry in 1978. Mr. Liu has served as President of China Eastern Airlines Company Limited from 2000 to 2002; Vice-Minister of the Civil Aviation Administration of China from 2002 to August 2004 and has been President of China Southern Air Holding Company since August 2004.

Mr. Liu graduated from the Civil Aviation Flight University of China and earned an academic certificate in International Trade at Tianjin University of Finance & Economics in 1999.
