China Industrial Bank Adopts Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse.

Centralized Information Platform Provides Comprehensive Support for Management Decision-Making and Risk Control

BEIJING -- Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the global leader in enterprise data warehousing, today announced that China Industrial Bank has adopted the Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to establish its information management infrastructure.

The first phase of the EDW project went into production on April 30, 2006, and was one of the largest information technology (IT) investments by the bank. Delivering operational stability and outstanding performance, the EDW has greatly enhanced the decision-making capabilities and core competitiveness for Industrial Bank.

The EDW was established as the fundamental data platform for the bank upon which new applications such as anti-money-laundering have been built in the past two years. In a recent and successful initiative to consolidate existing applications to enable data sharing across the bank, the retail banking information system was migrated onto the EDW platform and its performance improved dramatically. Other applications to be built upon this centralized platform are currently being planned, including customer relationship management (CRM) and risk management systems.

For years, Industrial Bank has been adhering to managerial ideas that stress "develop and grow with customers" and "service starts with sincerity." In recent years, the bank has developed and strengthened CRM applications to offer all-round, top-quality, and highly-efficient financial service for its customers. As the bank experiences constant expansion, the existing business databases encountered several major limitations like disparate data systems, inconsistency in data standards and storage of historical data.

To achieve centralized information management and better meet regulatory requirements of Basel II, the bank decided to select the Teradata EDW after a comprehensive evaluation, to build a centralized information management infrastructure by loading data from major business systems across the bank.

In the first phase of implementation, Teradata has helped Industrial Bank to establish a platform for extracting, cleaning, loading and transforming data, a source for data storage and access by business systems. Moreover, Teradata has assisted the bank in accomplishing planning for EDW-based applications, optimizing EDW management by means of system and metadata management, and setting up management architecture and operational process for long-term EDW development based on data warehouse project implementation and maintenance methodology. The advanced, flexible and scalable EDW has effectively integrated data from different systems and platforms within the bank. It has provided a historical data storage platform and a single view of the business to enable compliance with Basel II in terms of the length of time that data is stored and secured when it is shared across the bank. In addition, an enterprise data model, designed to deliver customer service and management analytics has been introduced to address data standardization.

Based on the EDW, the bank established a comprehensive CRM system covering customer information collection, exchange, analysis and applications, and effectively integrated different distribution channels including: in-branch counter, ATM, online banking platform, customer service center and a mobile banking system. It greatly enhanced the bank's customer service and provided a consistent customer experience, thus driving the rapid growth of various businesses of the bank and facilitated its "customer-focused" transformation.

The bank gained extensive industry recognition and high praise for its outstanding achievement in CRM, it was listed in "Top 500 Chinese Enterprises in Applying IT in 2006" and was the only bank that received "Best CRM Application Award." The award event was organized by the National Information Evaluation Center to assess the level of small and medium domestic enterprises in using information technologies.
