China's State Environmental Protection Agency Considers Mandating Water Quality Monitoring Systems for All Industries Based on Successful System Installed by Sutron Corporation.

Business Editors

STERLING, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 2000

Sutron Corporation, a world leader in the business of real-time remote monitoring and control, has successfully completed a demonstration project for the State Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  of China.

The demonstration project included monitoring of the following water quality parameters: pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity turbidity /tur·bid·i·ty/ (ter-bid´i-te) cloudiness; disturbance of solids (sediment) in a solution, so that it is not clear.tur´bid

, COD, and TOC. The sensors were connected to Sutron's 8210 Data Recorder and Speech Modem allowing SEPA SEPA® Soft enhancer of percutaneous absorption Therapeutics A technology that enhances transdermal drug delivery. See Transcutaneous therapy.  to dial into the System and receive real-time data. For this demonstration project Sutron has been acting as system integrator using sensors manufactured by other U.S. companies.

SEPA's Vice Minister, Mr. Wang Xinfang, visited Sutron last week and indicated that SEPA plans to purchase the demonstration system from Sutron. The estimated amount of the system is $70,000 including the value of Sutron's manufactured equipment at $5,000.

SEPA plans to purchase 40 additional systems later this year from qualifying suppliers based on competitive bidding. SEPA intends to require some 500,000 industries in China to purchase such systems to comply with China's new water quality standards. SEPA eventually plans to manufacture these systems in China to reduce the cost.

Founded in 1975, Sutron's technical expertise in water management, hydrology hydrology, study of water and its properties, including its distribution and movement in and through the land areas of the earth. The hydrologic cycle consists of the passage of water from the oceans into the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration (or , and meteorology has distinguished the company in the field of remote environmental monitoring and control. Its products and services cover a wide range of water and weather tracking applications including stream flow and flood monitoring, water quality monitoring, irrigation irrigation, in agriculture, artificial watering of the land. Although used chiefly in regions with annual rainfall of less than 20 in. (51 cm), it is also used in wetter areas to grow certain crops, e.g., rice.  control, and weather and rainfall monitoring.

Sutron is a major worldwide supplier of real-time data collection systems - anywhere to everywhere - including wireless, internet, and multiple telemetry options and data management software. Presently, Sutron has nearly 25,000 environmental monitoring stations in operation globally.
