China, Philippines ink political and trade deals.


MANILA, Oct. 29 Kyodo

China and the Philippines signed two agreements Tuesday seeking to ''intensify'' political, trade and economic ties between the two countries, Philippine Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo Alberto Gatmaitan Romulo (born 1933) is a politician in the Philippines. He is currently Foreign Affairs Secretary in the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Romulo was born in Camiling, Tarlac from Pangasinan parents.

''The joint action plan for strategic cooperation covers the gamut of economic, political and people to people, trade and investment, tourism -- all the important aspects our relations. So we have to intensify those relations,'' Romulo told reporters.

The joint plan maps out general strategic directions in bilateral cooperation for the next five years.

The second agreement, the Philippines-China Consular Agreement, is the first consular agreement the Philippines has negotiated with another country.

He also discussed plans for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Philippine-Chinese diplomatic relations next year.

Yang's visit is one of several high-level visits of Chinese officials to the Philippines this year.
