Chili!Soft Announces Chili!ASP for UNIX; Upstart Company Enables Cross-Platform Active Server Pages for Building and Deploying Enterprise Web Applications.

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1998--Chili!Soft, the only provider of cross-platform ASP -- the mainstream web application platform, today announced Beta availability of the Chili!ASP web application server for Solaris(TM). Previously available only on Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. , Chili!ASP now offers the power of Active Server Pages (World-Wide Web, programming) Active Server Pages - (ASP) A scripting environment for Microsoft Internet Information Server in which you can combine HTML, scripts and reusable ActiveX server components to create dynamic web pages.

(ASP) to enterprise UNIX-based environments, enabling development and deployment of true cross-platform web-based applications.

"ASP has helped take the Web from a simple document publishing platform into a dynamic environment for deploying cross-platform, mission-critical business applications," stated Charles Crystle, Chief Technical Officer of Chili!Soft. "While other solutions are still struggling to come through on promises of being high performance and truly cross-platform, ASP has been embraced by hundreds of commercial software houses and thousands of developers in just 18 months, because of its simplicity, openness, power, and broad appeal. ASP is quickly becoming the mainstream Web application platform."

Why Chili!ASP?

IT faces 3 critical problems today: scarcity and cost of development resources, time to market of applications (internal or external), and support for heterogeneous computing environments. This is compounded by the urgency and growth of the Web and, therefore, web applications. Cross-platform ASP, through Chili!ASP, is the only solution that solves all three of these problems.

Chili!ASP is a compelling web application environment with support for rapid application development tools, easy database connectivity, and a component-based framework to create sophisticated, mission-critical enterprise applications.

Web developers can use ASP supported scripting languages, such as JScript or VBScript, and many powerful RAD tools, including Microsoft's Visual InterDev, Elemental's Drumbeat See Drumbeat 2000. , and Sybase's PowerSite, to build their web applications using the Active Sever Pages framework. Developers can also use their standard programming languages, such as Java, C++, Delphi, or Visual Basic, to build re-usable objects for sophisticated functions.

"Corporate managers can now apply all of their existing development resources to the same web application project regardless of available skillsets," said Crystle. "Managers know how difficult it is to find C++ or Java programmers and how expensive it is to provide extensive training for their current staff. Chili!ASP really helps in the biggest cost in creating applications - people."

Chili!ASP will appeal to corporations and government agencies searching for the most effective cross-platform web applications, and to commercial software houses already familiar with ASP in the NT world wanting to expand their markets. Chili!ASP provides absolute code portability; ASP applications can be dragged and dropped between UNIX UNIX
