Chile, Argentina confirmed as 2010 Dakar co-hosts

The Dakar Rally (or simply "The Dakar"; formerly known as "The Paris Dakar Rally" and now as "The Lisbon Dakar Rally") is an annual off-road race, organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation.

After 29 years in Africa the 2009 Dakar was the first to take place in South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and the success of January's edition sees the race return to the continent.

The 32rd renewal will again start and finish in Buenos Aires Buenos Aires (bwā`nəs ī`rēz, âr`ēz, Span. bwā`nōs ī`rās), city and federal district (1991 pop.  but unlike this year will feature five stages in the Acatama desert in Chile.

The 2010 Dakar will run from January 2 to January 16 and cover 5000km of special stages, 1000km less than in 2009.
