Population: 81,400. , Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996-- Childtime Learning Centers, the nation's fifth largest provider of child care and preschool services, has acquired the assets of two childcare centers in Texas and one in Florida Florida, state, United States Florida (flôr`ĭdə, flŏr`–), state in the extreme SE United States. A long, low peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean (E) and the Gulf of Mexico (W), Florida is bordered by Georgia and , and has been awarded a contract to operate an employer-sponsored center for the U.S. Census Bureau Noun 1. Financial terms of the three acquisitions were not disclosed. The acquisitions include Stoneway Private School, Lewisville, Texas Lewisville is a city in Denton County and Dallas County, Texas (USA). As of the 2000 census the city had a total population of 77,737. With strong population growth continuing into the new millennium, the U.S. Census Bureau gives a 2006 population estimate of 94,589. ; Learning Cottages, Houston; and Sunshine Daycare and Learning Center, Jacksonville, Fla. The U.S. Census Bureau center in Suitland, Md., will be Childtime's third federally sponsored childcare site and brings its total of at-work centers to over 30. Childtime, a 25-year-old child care provider, made an initial public offering of its stock on Feb. 2, 1996. "These acquisitions and management contract fit our post-IPO growth strategy to expand our business by 25 to 30 centers through the acquisition of existing child care centers, development of new build-to-suit centers and the managing of employer-sponsored centers," says Childtime Chief Executive Officer and President Harold Lewis. Childtime, with 178 centers nationwide, employs over 4,000 professional educators and child care providers, and provides a vital service to approximately 19,000 children and their parents in 14 states and the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C. (the capital of the United States). . Childtime reported revenue of $55.3 million for fiscal year '95, up from $48 million in '94 and up 28 percent from sales in fiscal year '93.
