Children in care sign up to council which allows them to have their say.

MORE THAN a dozen children in care have joined a new council to air their views about how Liverpool's social workers should look after them.

This month Liverpool's councillors also signed 10 pledges outlining how they will improve life for children in care.

Its inaugural chair is 18-year-old Liam Kent who lives in Dingle.

He said he wanted to get involved to turn his "negative views into positive outcomes".

He said: "I was the child that everyone thought would end up in prison, but since I joined the group, I started to get my act together.

"I want to make the care system a better place and easier to understand for younger kids. I'm a care leaver and I don't understand most of the stuff."

Some of the Care Council members were involved in interviewing new social workers being hired by the city.

"I'm a big believer in giving the kids a voice. I want to make sure that the kids are there to be heard."

Chloe, who has been in care for ten years, added: "People used to look down on me. I was one of those girls you would find on street corners with alcohol.

"Once I was rushed to hospital to get my stomach pumped. I was asked 'is this what you want to look back on in your life?'. That got me on a good path."
