Children have whale of a time.

CHILDREN will be all at sea at Newcastle's Discovery Museum.

The museum has a new artist in residence, Julian Meredith, who specialises in printmaking printmaking

 and he will be creating a huge print of a blue whale.

And it's not just children who can get involved with the piece. Visitors of all ages are invited to contribute to the large-scale artwork by adding to a growing shoal of painted fish that will accompany the whale.

come from Northumberland, while the shoal of fish will reflect the fishing heritage of area around the River Tyne. The print will be created in the Discovery Museum's Great Hall.

Visitors can get their hands dirty as they learn more about woodblock printing and using Japanese paper. Or they can simply watch as Julian goes about his work.

The event is part of the Northern Point Biennale The name Biennale is Italian and means "every other year", describing an event that happens every 2 years. One of the most important Biennales is an art exhibition that takes place for three months in Venice — the Venice Biennale — but there are numerous others:
, which aims to turn NewcastleGateshead into a 'Print City'.

Julian's residency A duration of stay required by state and local laws that entitles a person to the legal protection and benefits provided by applicable statutes.

States have required state residency for a variety of rights, including the right to vote, the right to run for public office, the
 runs from Monday, July 27 to Friday, August 28.

Events run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10.30am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 4pm.

Admission to the museum is free. Visitors will also be able to discover the newly redeveloped Play Tyne under-7s area, which has had a revamp re·vamp
