Children dig up prize potatoes.


PRIZE potatoes have been harvested by green-fingered pupils.

Children at Gwaunmeisgyn Primary School in Beddau Coordinates:  Beddau (Welsh for Graves) is a small town/village situated near the Welsh town of Pontypridd. It is less than a few miles from Llantrisant. , near Pontypridd, grew the heaviest Rocket and Vales Emerald potatoes in Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. , weighing in at 3kg and 2.5kg, as part of a competition called Potatoes For Schools organised by the Potato Council.

Sue Lawton from the council, which represents UK potato growers, congratulated the young winners and said the project was important because it helped children to understand more about the food they eat and how it is grown and produced.
