Seven Injury Prevention Programs Receive Funds Aimed at Preventing

Injuries Through Outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.  and Education

Citing the ongoing need to continue outreach and education efforts aimed at minimizing common injuries to young children, the Children and Families Commission approved allocating $705,000 among seven community-based programs for development of injury prevention programs. The programs selected addressed Commission-mandated initiatives for "Safe Environments In and Around the Home and Child Care" and "Child Maltreatment/Abuse: Prevention and Treatment," and will develop full program proposals this fall.

"The Commission felt it was important to begin the process of planning for injury prevention education and outreach through initial funding of these seven community-based organizations. These kinds of locally based collaborations are the key to reducing these all-too-common injuries to children.

As part of the Commission's action, the funding for programs was approved on a one-year adj. 1. completing its life cycle within a year.

To date, the Commission has allocated $74 million to fund 166 programs' grants, and committed over $32 million to fund multi-year programs in Orange County directly benefiting the health, education, and safety of young children and their families.
