 is sponsoring the first St. Nicholas Celebration Toy Drive the weekend of December 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The beneficiary of the St. Nicholas Celebration Toy Drive is Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC OCDC Oregon Child Development Coalition (Wilsonville, OR)
OCDC Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre (Canada)
OCDC Ohio Cooperative Development Center
OCDC Operator Controlled Discharge Chute
). The nonprofit agency administers the Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program in 12 counties in Oregon List of 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. Oregon counties are also listed in order of per-capita income.

. OCDC provides services to some of the youngest and poorest children in the state, annually serving 6,000 children 6 weeks to 5 years old. The annual income of families eligible for services is under $13,000.

Children are encouraged to drop off unwrapped new gifts for preschool children at a special display at Woodburn Company Stores. In return, they will receive a special St. Nicholas gift and parents will receive a pass for up to an additional 75% savings on already discounted name brand merchandise.

The goal of this program is to help raise awareness that thousands of Oregon children may not receive any gifts this holiday season. Another goal is to try to teach children the importance of giving to others.

St. Nicholas is a popular pre-Santa Claus figure still recognized for giving and generosity by many cultures worldwide. There is scarcely anything historically certain about him except that he was from Turkey and a Bishop in the fourth century. St. Nicholas died in Lycia, Turkey December 6 in either 345 or 353 A.D. His legend of gift giving to the poor is said to embody the real meaning of giving.

Woodburn Company Stores, Oregon's largest upscale outlet shopping center is located off Interstate 5 at Woodburn exit 271, just 30 minutes south of downtown Portland Downtown Portland is located on the west bank of the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
