Children's author follows in footsteps of Dickens.THE work of Crosby-based award-winning author and screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce will star in this year's Penny Readings at St George's Hall. For the past six years, the event has continued the tradition that Charles Dickens began in the 1840s, when he would travel around Liverpool reading to thousands of ordinary people and charging just one penny. The sixth annual Penny Readings , will take place at 7pm on Sunday, December 6. Tickets are available now from Liverpool and Birkenhead Central Libraries (0151 233 5829), for 1p each, and a further 20 tickets will be auctioned on eBay from Friday. Previous years have included readings from actor and director Janet Suzman Janet Suzman (born February 9, 1939) is a South African actress and director. Early life Born in Johannesburg to a Jewish family, the niece of civil rights/anti-apartheid campaigner, Helen Suzman, she was educated at Kingsmead College, Johannesburg, and at the University , actor Annabelle Dowler and poet Janet Joseph. Further details of the 2009 programmes will be announced at a later date. Dickens's first visit to Liverpool was in 1842when he stayed at the Adelphi Hotel.
