Child welfare line for Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotians will have a single toll-free number to contact child-welfare officials after-hours and on weekends. The new system will be staffed by social workers trained in child protection who will have access to client records at the 20 child-welfare agencies and district offices. They will use a set procedure to decide if a call should be investigated further. If they determine a home visit is warranted, they will work with local on-call social workers, according to Vicki Wood, Provincial Director of child-welfare services.
