Chick-fil-A Caps Off 2006 With Record Sales and Business Performance.

ATLANTA -- 2006 was a banner year for the Chick-fil-A([R]) restaurant chain!

On the heels of achieving the $2 billion annual sales milestone in November, Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc. today announced year-end 2006 system-wide sales of $2,274,860,241. These figures reflect a 15.16 percent increase over the chain's 2005 performance and a same-store sales Same-store sales is a business term which refers to the revenue generated by one of a retail chain's specific outlets during a certain period of time (often a fiscal quarter or a particular shopping season), compared to an identical period in the past, usually in the previous year.  increase of 8.52.

Currently the nation's second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in sales, Chick-fil-A's business performance marks the 39th consecutive year the chain has enjoyed a system-wide sales gain - a streak the company has sustained since opening its first chain restaurant in 1967. It took the chain 33 years to reach $1 billion in annual sales (in 2000) and only six years to surpass the $2 billion sales mark.

The company's 2006 sales performance complemented a number of business highlights, including:

* The introduction of four flavors of Hand-Spun Milkshakes, resulting in one of the most popular new product introductions in company history.

* Continued restaurant expansion with a chain record of 73 new locations.

* Seventeen percent of the chain's franchisee "Operator" network received new cars, with 164 restaurant Operators reaching their sales award goals and, thus, receiving the new Ford vehicle of their choice.

* Introduction of re-loadable, no-fee Chick-fil-A Card.

* Hosted inaugural Chick-fil-A Bowl The Chick-fil-A Bowl, formerly called the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, and before that simply (and perhaps more familiarly) called the Peach Bowl, is an annual college football bowl game played in Atlanta, Georgia since December 1968.  college football game, setting a Georgia Dome Atlanta Falcons

The Chick-fil-A Bowl also continues to lead all bowls in charitable giving, contributing $531,000 this year.

* Restaurants and Institutions magazine named Chick-fil-A its 2006 Consumer Choice in Chains Award winner in the chicken category - marking the 12th time the chain has received the award over the past 13 years.

The Chain plans to surpass it 2006 record of 73 restaurant openings by adding 90 locations this year, including 70 stand-alone restaurants, five mall/in-line locations and 15 licensed operations (e.g. college campuses, airports and hospitals). Much of Chick-fil-A's growth will continue into California and Arizona, two states in which the chain has aggressively focused over the past couple of years.

As Chick-fil-A continues its steady momentum of growth, its foundation as a family owned restaurant chain remains intact. Chain founder Truett Cathy celebrated his 60th anniversary in the restaurant business in 2006 with industry-wide recognition; a local celebration at his first restaurant, The Dwarf House, in Hapeville, Ga.; and the opening of the third Truett's Grill([R]) location - a concept the chain first introduced in 1996 to recognize Cathy's then-50th anniversary in the restaurant industry.

And in the same year that Truett Cathy celebrated the past six decades in business, Chick-fil-A also celebrated the future of Chick-fil-A by welcoming its third generation of Cathy family members to the business in 2006. Two of Cathy's grandsons, Andrew Cathy and Mark Cathy, opened new restaurants in St. Petersburg, Fla. and San Marcos San Marcos (săn mär`kəs).
