Deloitte Sources Available to Discuss What Retailers Can Expect On "Black Friday Black Friday, Sept. 24, 1869, in U.S. history, day of financial panic. In 1869 a small group of American financial speculators, including Jay Gould and James Fisk, sought the support of federal officials of the Grant administration in a drive to corner the gold ," One of the Busiest Shopping Days of the Year
WHAT: With the holiday shopping season about to begin, seventy-one
percent of Chicago consumers surveyed are likely to spend the
same or more this holiday season than last. According to
Deloitte's 19th Annual Holiday Retail Outlook, Chicago
consumers are more focused on convenience and socializing this
year. So what does this mean for local retailers and where
will the cash registers be most loudly ringing?

WHO: Deloitte retail and consumer business sources are available
for in-studio, phone or man-on-the street interviews in
downtown Chicago and at various sites in the suburbs for the
kick-off of the holiday shopping season. Sources are also
available on the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday.

Deloitte sources can address such questions as:

-- What will Chicagoans buy this year and where?

-- What can retailers expect the day after Thanksgiving?

-- What are the "hot" gifts this year?

-- Why are discount stores such popular shopping destinations?

-- What factors are influencing purchasing decisions?

-- Why is Internet shopping so popular?

WHY: With Black Friday just a few days away, Deloitte sources can
discuss what Chicago consumers are likely to spend--and how
retailers will come out in the end.

-- Chicagoans plan to spend a total of $1,626 on average this
holiday season, about even with last year's intentions.

-- Chicago consumers plan to spend less on gifts and more on
socializing both away and at home this holiday season.
