 Illinois Northeast 2004 Challenge to recognize some of the most innovative small companies in the 10-county northeast region of Illinois. This business innovation competition will kick off on October 5 at DePaul University Coordinates:  DePaul University[1] is a private institution of higher education and research in Chicago, Illinois, USA. , and will culminate culminate, in astronomy, the maximum height in the sky reached by a celestial body on a given day. At the culminate the body is crossing the observer's celestial meridian and is said to be in upper transit.  at an event on March 1, 2005 where the 15 small business finalists will present their innovation and winners will receive awards.

This competition will highlight the outstanding products or services that are vitally important to the economic health of Illinois. Awards will be given to the most innovative high-growth companies in each industry - manufacturing, service and environmental - based on the strength of their business and the potential impact of their innovation. An additional award will be given to the top minority-owned business and women-owned business in those industries as well.

INNOVATE Illinois will kick-off with an 'Innovation Workout' day on October 5th. The day will highlight key topics related to technology, financing, innovation and strategy, and will feature some of the top business leaders and entrepreneurs in the region. Jack Lavin, Director of Illinois DCEO, and Lori Healey Lori T. Healey is the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Mayor of Chicago. Healey replaced former Chief of Staff Ron Huberman, who was named President of the Chicago Transit Authority by the CTA Board. , Principal of Perkins & Will, are co-chairs of INNOVATE Illinois. Webinars for Businesses to Enter the Innovation Challenge:

INNOVATE Illinois will be hosting three webinars during the month of October (October 12, 13 and 14 at 3 p.m.), shortly following the launch, to explain the INNOVATE Illinois process, its benefits and to answer questions.

Each webinar will focus on one of the three target industries - manufacturing, services or environmental - with the goal of enabling interested small businesses throughout northeast Illinois to participate in this exciting challenge to highlight their most innovative products, services or processes. Final Event:

On March 1, 2005, 15 finalists will be evaluated on their innovation. A comprehensive plan and presentation will be submitted. This business and innovation plan will provide strategic direction of how to bring the innovation to market. The presentation will focus on an overview of the innovation, its potential contribution to economic development and how the prize funding will help to achieve a significant business milestone related to the roll-out of the innovation.

Hosted by Kendall College, the presentations and awards reception are open to government, corporations, investors, service providers and other parties interested in learning about the most innovative companies in these sectors in the northeast region of Illinois.
