Chicago's `Blues in Schools' Program Awarded Grant From AIWA America; Consumer Electronics Company Will Make Presentation On June 9 During Chicago Blues Festival.

. announced today that the company will provide a $2,500 grant to Chicago's Grant Academy for its Blues In The Schools program. A presentation will take place on Friday, June 9 during the Chicago Blues Festival The Chicago Blues Festival is an annual event that features four days of performances by top-tier blues musicians, both old favorites and the up-and-coming. It is hosted by the City of Chicago Mayor's Office of Special Events, and always occurs in early June.  in Chicago's Grant Park.

The Blues In The Schools program teaches students an appreciation for the blues and its history, how to play blues selections on the harmonica harmonica.

The Grant Academy program is headed by renowned blues performer Billy Branch, who has a long affiliation with the program and who has recorded over 50 albums and performed with some of the genre's biggest stars. His Grant Academy group, 15 students from grades three to seven, will be performing on the AIWA Front Porch Stage at the Chicago Blues Festival on June 9 at 1:00 p.m. with Branch and The Sons of Blues with Roy Hytower. The AIWA presentation follows at 2:00 p.m.

"It's important for children to gain an appreciation for all kinds of music, but with the blues so much a part of Chicago's history and heritage, this program has a very special meaning here, and we're proud to be a supporter," said Akio Imanishi, senior vice president, marketing, AIWA AMERICA.

This year marks AIWA's fourth as a major sponsor of the Chicago Blues Festival, each year sponsoring the AIWA Front Porch Stage. This year's festival runs from June 8-11.
