Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. (TM) -- IncouLAN 4 for Windows NT.

InocuLAN 4 delivers a number of advanced capabilities including Domain Management, Virus Wall, Virus Quarantine, Hands-Free Updates, and Internet Protection -- all industry firsts -- which clearly establish it as the leader in enterprise virus protection.

IncouLAN 4 for Windows NT is the first antivirus product to support Windows NT 4.0 and is designed for networked customers. InocuLAN is tightly integrated with Cheyenne AntiVirus clients for Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 3.x Windows 3.x can refer to either an individual or all of the following versions of Microsoft Windows:
  • Windows 3.0
  • Windows 3.1x
These should not be confused with the first three releases of Windows NT, which were also given "3.x" version numbers, i.e.
, DOS, and Macintosh workstations. InocuLAN's new Universal Manager allows network administrators to remotely manage both Windows NT and NetWare IncouLAN servers from a single console, providing enterprise manageability.

InocuLAN 4 offers Hands-Free Updates to automatically download and distribute virus signature updates to all InocuLAN servers and workstations on the network. Monthly virus signature updates are free to all registered users. Also new to InocuLAN 4 for Windows NT is Virus Source Tracking and Virus Quarantine, which enable administrators to trace viruses to their points of entry on the network and isolate infected users. Other exclusive features include the Virus Wall, which closes a major security gap -- preventing workstations from overwriting Overwriting

Commented Tim Kraus, industry marketing manager for tools and infrastructure, business customer marketing, at Microsoft Corp., "In recent years, sharing data over public and private networks has caused a significant increase in the number of viruses present in today's computing environment. Cheyenne's announcement of InocuLAN 4 for Windows NT demonstrates its commitment to providing strong protection against virus intrusion. The product offers Windows NT customers an advanced set of tools for protecting Windows NT servers and will simplify network security tasks."

Enterprise Manageability

Perhaps more than any single feature, automated protection is essential for network managers looking to ease the administrative burden of providing virus protection. InocuLAN's unique Domain Management capabilities greatly simplify configuring and scanning across the network. InocuLAN's new and unique Universal Manager and Hands-Free Update features build on these strengths. And, to ease software roll-out, InocuLAN can now be automatically distributed and installed across the network.

"Viruses are becoming a visible and pervasive threat to corporate intellectual assets," said Rob Enderle Rob Enderle, founder of the Enderle Group, is a consultant, writer, and widely quoted technical and legal analyst in the information technology industry. Microsoft, Advanced Micro Devices, the SCO Group, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell are (or have been) among his clients. , Sr. industry analyst for the Giga Information Group. "InocuLAN, by providing network level protection, is a vast improvement over existing tools that are often out of date, are difficult to administer across large corporations, and generally provide a false sense of security."

Advanced Virus Protection

InocuLAN is certified by the NCSA (1) (National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Urbana-Champaign, IL, www.ncsa.uiuc.edu) A high-performance computing facility located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  (National Computer Security Association, at www.ncsa.com) to detect 100 percent of viruses found in circulation among corporate users ("in the wild"). With InocuLAN 4 for Windows NT, Cheyenne raises the bar again with the addition of real-time virus scanning and curing. InocuLAN's state of the art detection protects the network from virtually all known (and many unknown) virus types, including boot sector, master boot sector, memory resident, file multipartite mul·ti·par·tite

, president of NCSA. "As viruses continue to spread and become more network-centric, users require a solution that performs fully automated background protection and has easy management. Cheyenne InocuLAN seems to offer both."

Support for Windows NT 4.0

InocuLAN 4 for Windows NT provides complete support for Windows NT 4.0 servers and workstations, including Real-Time Cure and Shell Extension Integration. It takes full advantage of the strengths of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and is backwards compatible with Windows NT 3.51. The product was the industry's first to receive "Designed for Microsoft BackOffice" certification. InocuLAN is also tightly integrated with ARCserve, Cheyenne's industry-leading storage management solution, and is the only antivirus product that allows real-time virus scanning without degrading ARCserve's performance.

Internet and E-Mail Protection

In keeping with its commitment to detect and cure all known viruses across the enterprise -- whether originating on the network, the Internet or through groupware applications -- Cheyenne has enhanced InocuLAN's real-time protection for Internet downloads and is working with leading firewall vendors to halt viruses at the gateway and prevent them from ever entering the network. InocuLAN's new Web Browser Helpers integrate with both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer to scan Internet downloads even when InocuLAN is not running. The InocuLAN virus scanning engine is being integrated with leading firewall products, such as CheckPoint Software FireWall-1, to stop viruses at the Internet gateway.

In addition, Cheyenne recently announced a set of AntiVirus Agents for groupware and messaging applications, including Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange Server Microsoft Exchange Server is a messaging and collaborative software product developed by Microsoft.
