), a world leader in the development of enterprise-wide essential software solutions, today announced a major upgrade of its award-winning network fax solution, FAXserve, for Novell's NetWare network operating system An operating system that is designed for network use. Normally, it is a complete operating system with file, task and job management; however, with some earlier products, it was a separate component that ran under the OS; for example, LAN Server required OS/2, and LANtastic required DOS.  (NOS) and GroupWise e-mail system.

FAXserve for NetWare & GroupWise provides powerful and advanced fax services to users of Novell's GroupWise 5 and NetWare. The seamless integration of GroupWise and FAXserve allows users to easily send and receive faxes in the form of an E-mail. Outbound E-mails containing attachments can be automatically converted to fax images and sent to the fax recipient.

"FAXserve's transparent integration with GroupWise, together with its broad, industry-leading device support, provides a complete and powerful network fax solution for corporations of any size," said Wayne Lam, vice president and general manager for Cheyenne's NetWare Division. "We are committed to offering our customers the most advanced fax services available in a streamlined, intuitive package, providing a complete communications solution."

Cheyenne's FAXserve for NetWare & GroupWise features several first-to-market features, including complete, built-in support for leading Windows applications. The product combines integrated GroupWise faxing and desktop faxing with popular Windows applications -- such as WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Lotus AmiPro -- into one solution. Whether in GroupWise or Windows applications, users are able to fax quickly and easily without switching between applications, thus eliminating the need for end users to learn a new interface. In addition, network administrators no longer need to manage both a network fax application and E-mail fax gateway due to the centralized administration available with GroupWise 5 and Novell's Directory Services (NDS See eDirectory.

).

"Cheyenne's FAXserve for NetWare & GroupWise will enable our customers to send and receive E-mails and fax documents in a more convenient manner than ever before," said Lowell Camp, director of developer relations for Novell's GroupWare Division. "The integration of GroupWise and FAXserve will also provide a strong administrative solution for both GroupWise and Cheyenne users through Novell's NDS."

With complete NDS support, FAXserve for NetWare & GroupWise gives network administrators the ability to configure FAXserve users and services for the entire network from a central location. In addition, FAXserve for NetWare & GroupWise provides full support to remote users. Remote users save significant time and increase productivity using GroupWise address book entries to broadcast messages and attachments to an unlimited number of fax and E-mail recipients.

FAXserve's NLM Software that runs in a NetWare server. Although NetWare servers store DOS and Windows applications, they do not execute them. All programs that run in a NetWare server must be compiled into the NLM format. They are typically written in C and use Novell's libraries.  (NetWare Loadable Module See NLM. ) architecture allows fax services to operate as an extension of GroupWise. The gateway utilizes NetWare's multi-tasking capabilities to provide enhanced performances on up to 32 fax lines. FAXserve for NetWare & GroupWise supports inbound routing via multiple transmission methods, including DID, DTMF (Dual-Tone MultiFrequency) The type of audio signals that are generated when you press the buttons on a touch-tone telephone.
