Cheyenne Shines: she's a pop singer from Texas, she'll be 16 any day now, and she has her own reality show....

Haven't heard of her? You will. She cut a sweet deal with Epic Records, and her CD is out this summer ... right on the heels of Cheyenne at 15, premiering May 24 on MTV. Cheyenne Kimball called us from her cellie on the way to a photo shoot and, no, the: MTV crew wasn't filming while she chatted. A girl's gotta get a break sometime. Even if she's the girl who gets all the breaks.

GL: So you're the star of your own MTV show. How cool is that?

CK: Yeah, they started filming back in June of last year and then they started filming again for my birthday when I turned 15. They stopped filming for a while, and they've started back up again and, now, they'll be shooting every day.

Didn't you and your family just move from Texas to Los Angeles?

We did. We took an eight-day road trip all the way down here, which was pretty crazy, but they filmed the whole way.

How is it to have camera crews with you all the time?

It's weird. You get used to it after a while. They're like family now, so it's better. I feel more comfortable. But, at first, it's kind of awkward. The first day they were filming, I was really stressed out.

So which came first, the record contract with Epic or the MTV deal?

The record contract. When I was 12, I won the NBC show America's Most Talented Kid. From there, the record company had a lot of interest. When I was 13, I signed the deal.

And when did the MTV thing happen?

About a year ago, we started discussing it, and then maybe six months later, we ended up going with them. So it's been a really long process. I remember having a meeting, and they were like, "You have a really great story and everything, but we don't have a slot open for a show," and we were like, "OK." Then probably three months later they were like, "Well, one of our shows has been cancelled so we can give you something now."

Having a show should help record sales, huh?

Yeah. My main goal is to play a sold-out arena. I don't care about anything else. If this show helps me achieve that, then that would be amazing.

Do you ever get embarrassed on camera?

Just the fact that sometimes you're not wearing makeup, and you look like crap. That's hard for our whole family. You're just like, "Oh, why did they have to choose that day to film?" You get sick and things like that, and that sucks but I guess that's just how people will be able to relate to me. They're like, "Oh, wow, she's a normal girl," and, you know, "She's not constantly having a makeup artist with her and having her hair done all the time."

So you don't get your hair and makeup done before filming? Oh, no, no, no. They don't do that, no.

Well, that's a good thing. A lot of girls watch TV and think ... ... that everybody has to look a certain way.

Yeah. How about family squabbles? Do they catch stuff like that?

They do. My mom and I argue a lot. My mom's my manager, my teacher and, of course, my mother. So it gets hard sometimes because we're always around each other, but I mean ...

What kinds of things do you argue about?

Just stupid things, like I'll get my phone taken away or whatever. It's just mother and daughter things. You know, being sassy. I'm a normal teenage girl. I don't sneak out or anything, so it's nothing like that.

Are you very attached to your phone?

I am. My phone and computer are the only things I have to talk to my friends back home so, when they're taken away, I don't have anything.

Did you leave a boyfriend behind in Dallas?

I did have a boyfriend there but we broke up, like, right before Christmas and it was actually on the show. I can't really have a boyfriend right now, which is kind of sad.

Do you miss him?

He's still my friend. I miss him 'cause I don't get to see him, and we used to hang out every day so it's kind of hard for me. But we talk and stuff.

Do you have a best friend?

I have four really good friends, and I can't say that one is better than the other. They're really true friends, and they're great. I met Whitney in the fourth grade, and we've been best friends ever since. And then, Katie--she's from Florida--we met over MySpace and ended up being pen pals, and then she flew out to Dallas and hung out. My other friend Jason is a drummer for a band my manager manages so I know him through that. And then my other best friend is John, which is my ex-boyfriend. I only hang out with older people, really.

What's it like to have two guy friends?

It's awesome. It's so hard to get along with girls sometimes. It's nice having guy friends because you can get other opinions. You can see the other side.

Have you gotten to meet any famous musicians since you've made your record deal?

Yeah, I met Mandy Moore, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora. Um, I've met Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5. Oh, I also met Natasha Beddingfield, Anastasia, Good Charlotte. I hang out with Benji from Good Charlotte so much. We actually wrote a song together.

How did you and Benji meet?

He's on the same label as me, so the guy who signed me--they're all really good friends--he was like, "I want you and Benji and Joel to meet." So we met, and then we ended up writing together.

So you guys hang out, but are you and Benji an item?

No, no, no, no.

Is there anything people didn't know about you that they're going to find out once they see you on TV?

Definitely. They're going to find out that I am a true songwriter and that I'm all about the music.
