River, northern central U.S. Rising in eastern Wyoming, it flows northeast 527 mi (850 km) to join the Missouri River in central South Dakota. Angostura Dam, part of the Missouri River basin irrigation project, is on the river near Hot Springs, S.D.
 Reservation located in South Dakota South Dakota (dəkō`tə), state in the N central United States. It is bordered by North Dakota (N), Minnesota and Iowa (E), Nebraska (S), and Wyoming and Montana (W).  has been selected as one of two sites in the nation to help the Census Bureau Noun 1.  as it prepares for the 2010 Census. Travis County, Texas Travis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. In 2000, the population was 812,280. Its county seat is Austin,6 the capital of Texas. , located near Austin, is the other test site. These two sites were selected by the U.S. Census Bureau to test new methodologies and operations for the 2010 Census. According to the Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon, information gathered at these test sites will help the Census Bureau evaluate many systems and procedures planned for use in conducting the 2010 Census. This project is designed to improve the accuracy and completeness of the upcoming Census.

The field testing on the Reservation will include everyone living within the boundaries of the Cheyenne River Reservation. The Field Office which opened late March 2005, is located in the Teton Mall in Eagle Butte, South Dakota Eagle Butte is a city in South Dakota, United States. The population was 619 at the 2000 census. Geography
Eagle Butte is located at  (44.996502, -101.235875)GR1.
. Census workers who are familiar with the reservation were hired to travel throughout the reservation to identify every housing unit. From March to May 2006, census workers will visit every residence to conduct the actual enumeration 1. (mathematics) enumeration - A bijection with the natural numbers; a counted set.

Promotion efforts for the 2006 Census Test on the Cheyenne River Reservation included a student art contest. In December 2005, the Census Bureau announced that Keshia Buffalo, 12, and Darwyn Standing Bear, 9, were the grand-prize winners in the art contest. The contest was designed to not only showcase the artistic talent of the students, but to also help the community learn more about the 2006 Census Test.
