 Chesapeake Board Approves Additional
$30 Million Investment at West Point
RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Chesapeake Corporation (NYSE: CSK) announced that its board of directors recently approved $30 million for capital improvement projects at Chesapeake Paper Products Company, Chesapeake's wholly owned subsidiary located at West Point, Va. The capital will be used to improve quality, productivity and reliability in the pulp mill, bleach plant and chemical recovery areas of the operation. The mill's pulp producing capacity will increase from 1250 tons per day (tpd) to 1500 (tpd) when the projects are completed in late 1993.
"These projects will allow us to improve the quality of our fiber supply to the paper mill and enable us to obtain incremental bleached pulp production. The project will add another 30,000 tons of bleached hardwood market pulp to our product line and will provide us with added capabilities for future growth in the white top paperboard market," said Thomas Blackburn, president of Chesapeake Paper Products Company. "These follow a $100 million investment which included a new recovery boiler, evaporator system and related projects to be completed later this month. Environmentally, the new equipment will more efficiently clean our hardwood pulp, save energy, reduce odor emissions and reduce elemental chlorine in the bleaching process."
