Cherie Buckner-Webb Receives HP Distinguished Leadership in Human Rights Award.

Hewlett-Packard Company today presented Cherie Buckner-Webb, longtime Boise resident and philanthropist for numerous diversity organizations, with this year's prestigious HP Distinguished Leadership in Human Rights Award. The award, given annually since 1998, honors those whose vision and sustained contribution to human rights have helped create a more inclusive Treasure Valley.

"Cherie has fought for the right of every human being to live with dignity and respect, and to experience the beauty of faith, family and community," said Debbie Flandro, chairperson of HP's award committee. "She truly is a shining soul Shining Soul is an Action RPG for the Game Boy Advance. It is part of the Shining Force series. It contains four main classes (Warrior, Archer, Dragonute, or Wizard) and several dungeons that involve hack and slash style fighting.  and a model for all of us."

Buckner-Webb has volunteered her time at more than 15 charities during a 30-year period, including board memberships for Planned Parenthood Planned Parenthood

Also receiving recognition at the event was Bill Wassmuth, former executive director for the Northwest Coalition for Human Dignity Human dignity is an expression that can be used as a moral concept or as a legal term. Sometimes it means no more than that human beings should not be treated as objects. Beyond this, it is meant to convey an idea of absolute and inherent worth that does not need to be acquired and . Wassmuth was bestowed with the HP Friend of Human Rights Award for his efforts in waging a tireless campaign against racism and intolerance throughout the Northwest.

In addition to the human rights awards, HP also presented Boise State University student Francisco Pedraza with a scholarship in honor of Buckner-Webb. The $2,000 scholarship is intended for a university student who actively demonstrates a commitment to the advancement of human rights, and is viewed as a role model and leader in advocating inclusion and support of diversity.

Buckner-Webb received the award at a luncheon held in her honor today at the Grove Hotel. Past recipients Marilyn Shuler (1998) and the Rev. Dr. Nancy Taylor (1999), as well as a host of civic, educational and community dignitaries attended the event.
