Staffing numbers among IPSL at Bootle have fallen from 1,000 in 1997, when A&L outsourced work to the firm, to 500 today. About 100 workers were made redundant this year and a similar number are expected to follow in 2007, said CWU CWU Central Washington University CWU Communication Workers Union CWU Communication Workers' Union (South Africa) CWU Church Women United CWU Crittenton Women's Union (Boston, MA) CWU Complex Work Unit Bootle branch chaiman Gerry Culligan. IPSL's processing contract with A&L ends in 2010 and Mr Culligan is calling on bosses to find new work to support local jobs. "The company should be looking for other work streams rather than let us all just dwindle away. We could be working on bill payment contracts or even government work," he said. "We have got to think of the economy of Bootle and Mersey-side," added Mr Culligan, who urged A&L workers to join his members in their demonstration. |
