"I love the magnificence of nature and seek to capture both its beauty and emotion, hopefully conveying that experience to others so they can experience it, too," Ms. Gonnella said.

Ms. Gonnella has a doctorate in biophysical chemistry and works as a scientist in the pharmaceutical industry.

"There is an energy that forms around an idea. When that happens, it just becomes stronger and stronger until you just know what you have to do," she said.

"It is difficult to find time to paint. I just have to make time, usually in the evenings on the weekend; stolen moments," said Ms. Gonnella.

In her search for a local artists' community and a venue to display her art, she came upon Sheryll Collins' Web site and subsequently was invited to show her work at the library.

"I met Sheryll at a cafe, showed her some of my work, and she said, `You're in.' It's especially nice when another artist likes your work," Ms. Gonnella said. She is showing her work for the first time at the Art on Rotation Gallery at Thayer Memorial Library.

Ms. Collins coordinates and runs the gallery, showcasing and selling local artists' works.

There will be a reception for Ms. Gonnella from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at the library, 717 Main St., on the town green of Lancaster.

"It's open to the public, and people can come and talk to me, perhaps I can even paint something for them," said Ms. Gonnella.

"I recently did a portrait of a friend's daughter. I took a quick picture of her standing on a stool stool (stldbomacl) feces.
