Their mission: letting businesses know that Chemical wants their business.

Chemical, the nation's third largest bank is already a significant force in lending to small and mid-sized companies. In downstate New York Downstate New York is a term for the southeasternmost portion of New York State, United States, in contrast to Upstate New York. It should be noted that the term "Downstate New York" has significantly less currency than its counterpart term "Upstate New York", and the Downstate , for example, the bank is the market leader, doing business with over half of those middle market businesses.

"We're making sure the businesses in our markets know that we are eager to lend, and that our relationship managers want to help growing companies," said Frank Lourenso, executive vice president of the Middle Market Banking Group, which services businesses with $1 million to $500 million in annual sales.

Lourenso noted that Chemical has traditionally been the most aggressive bank in calling on customers and prospects. "The potential for future relationships from today's blitz appears strong, as a significant percentage of the companies we called on are now considered strong prospects," he said.
