The Asia/Pacific region, excluding Japan, will post the most impressive gains in rubber processing chemical demand through 2006. China will lead the way with sales increasing 6.1% per year, from $104 million to $140 million. The other Asia/Pacific nations will see an increase in sales from $116.5 million to $153 million, a 5.6%, increase annually. Japan's rubber processing chemical industry is projected to grow at a 1.7% annual rate through the period, which is an improvement from the declines posted in the 1996-2001 period. Freedonia says Japan will continue to face intense competition in both motor vehicles and tires in many of the nation's traditional export markets, which will adversely impact domestic consumption of rubber chemicals.

market is expected to perform well, although annual gains will be somewhat exaggerated because of a poor performance in 2001, when sales totalled $152 million. That mark was lower than the $157 million posted in 1996. Freedonia predicts the North American market to grow 4.5% per year to a total of $189 million in 2006.
