) today announced that first quarter earnings per share increased 56 percent over the same period in the prior year.

Net income for the quarter, which ended Oct. 1, 1995, was $1,359,000, or $.25 per share, compared with $823,000, or $.16 per share, for the same quarter a year ago. Worldwide sales for the quarter, which comparatively benefitted from a February February: see month.  1995 business acquisition, rose 35 percent to $18.5 million from $13.7 million in the first quarter of the prior year. Measured in constant foreign currency exchange rates, the sales increase would have been 34 percent.

Commenting on the results for the quarter, Duane C. Montopoli, Chemfab's president and chief executive officer, said "We are very pleased with the Company's performance for the first quarter which reflects strong earnings in both our U.S. and European European
