ChemFree's SmartWasher picked by Orange County Transportation Authority as environmental choice for cleaning engine parts.

NORCROSS, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 1996--ChemFree Corporation's SmartWasher(TM) system has been selected by the Orange County Transportation Authority The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is the public sector transportation planning body and transit service provider for Orange County, California. Its ancestor agencies include not only the prior Orange County Transit District but also such diverse entities as  (OCTA) as an environment- and user-friendly means of cleaning engine parts for the county's 750 buses and shuttles that serve 44 million riders annually.

Containment Corporation, an environmental products company that distributes ChemFree's SmartWasher system in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , has been awarded a contract to install 34 units at three OCTA bus terminals, totally replacing a citrus-based parts-washing system which OCTA found difficult to use and maintain. The SmartWasher system combines a rugged parts-washer machine with highly effective water-based cleaners, specialized filters and groundbreaking microbial microbial

"A new regulation passed by air quality officials in Southern California will require companies to stop using petrochemical solvents by 1999," said Tom McNally, vice president and general manager for ChemFree. "Our natural, water-based SmartWasher system will be the perfect alternative for operations that need an effective and affordable industrial degreasing system that is kind to the environment and meets regulatory guidelines."

More than 7,000 SmartWasher units are installed today in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, Great Britain, South Korea and Australia. The product has uses in the automotive, industrial and commercial arenas, as well as in preventive maintenance applications across a wide range of industries. Environmentally aware companies that have become recent users of the SmartWasher system include BellSouth, Coca-Cola, Federal Express, Delta Airlines, the U.S. Army and National Guard, and the MARTA mass transportation system in Atlanta.
