Cheers to the Gold Quill winners!Cheers to this year's Gold Quill winners! One hundred and five communicators from all over the world will walk away with the gold in honor of their excellent achievements in this prestigious and demanding contest. From more than 2,000 entries, 28 will receive Awards of Excellence and 81, Awards of Merit. In past contests, communicators have walked away with as many as two awards each, but this is the first year that any communicator has won more than two awards -- Joe Williams Joe Williams may refer to:
Twenty countries were represented in this year's program. Outside the U.S. and Canada, New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. had the most entries (59); the United Kingdom had 39; 14 came from Australia and 11 from Mexico. Among the interesting observations of the judges on this year's entries was that the communication program that embodied the idea of having fun in the work place was a recurring theme. The judges said they doubted that this idea would have been found in entries submitted during the 80s. Also, in the employee communication program category, not a single entry dealt with the issue of downsizing (1) Converting mainframe and mini-based systems to client/server LANs. (2) To reduce equipment and associated costs by switching to a less-expensive system. (jargon) downsizing -- also surprising given the current economic climate. Employee literacy was an issue or concern this year of several entrants. In the judging process, first tier judges narrowed the field to the top three to five entries in each of the 92 categories. Then the Blue Ribbon blue ribbon denotes highest honor. [Western Folklore: Brewer Dictionary, 127] See : Prize panel met for two-and-one-half days to select the winners.
