Cheers as Quiet Man bar opens with a bang.Byline: By SENAN HOGAN PAT Cohan's Bar served its first customers yesterday - 56 years after opening its doors to Hollywood legends. The pub made famous in the legendary Quiet Man movie starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara was assembled piece by piece in Cong, Co Mayo, exactly as it appeared on screen. The bar was officially opened by Tara MacGowran - daughter of Jack MacGowran John Joseph "Jack" MacGowran (October 13 1918, Dublin, Ireland – January 31 1973, New York City) was an Irish-born character actor. He achieved some measure of fame as a leading member of the Abbey Players, he achieved stage renown for his knowing interpretations of who played Feeney in the John Ford film. Ms MacGowran said: "My dad often spoke of hanging out with John Wayne around Cong, so it's great to be here. She added: "I've seen the film lots of times and I can actually recognise some of the locals who appeared as extras." And lead actress Maureen O'Hara sent best wishes from her holiday home in West Cork. Quiet Man Movie Club chairman Des McHale said thousands flock to the locations and generate huge revenue for the local economy every year.
