Home help Linden Sillence, 52, of Wallsend has been doing her bit to help the brave lads.

She has been collecting items from the old folk on her rounds and also asking for goods from local shops and businesses.

"I saw the funeral of one of the young lads on the TV, and it just broke my heart to think he was coming home in a coffin," she explained.

"I just wanted to do something to help them. If everyone can donate just a few bits and pieces it will make a big difference."

Donations should be dropped off at the centres by December 4 in order to be boxed up and posted out in time for Christmas.
