Checkpoint announces contract with Hakon Group of Norway for RF EAS installations and source tagging.


THOROFARE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1997--Checkpoint Systems Norway AS has reached an agreement with the Hakon Group to become the sole supplier of radio frequency electronic article surveillance See EAS.  (RF EAS) systems, and to implement source tagging, throughout its 1,200 supermarkets. The Group, which consists of 250 wholly-owned and 950 franchised stores, controls approximately 30% of the Norwegian supermarket industry.

"Today's agreement with the Hakon Group strengthens Checkpoint's dominance in both Norway and the entire Nordic market," said Orn Johansson, managing director of Checkpoint Systems Norway. "Now, more than 60% of the Norwegian supermarket industry has chosen RF as the standard for EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) A security system for preventing theft in retail stores that uses disposable label tags or reusable hard tags attached to the merchandise. ."
