Checkpoint Systems to install radio frequency electronic article surveillance systems in 200 Vons supermarkets.

THOROFARE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 1996--Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CKP) will install its radio frequency (RF) electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems in 200 additional Vons supermarkets. Vons, located throughout Southern California and Nevada, currently uses Checkpoint's RF EAS systems in 40 of its stores. This installation increases the number of Vons supermarkets equipped with Checkpoint's RF EAS systems to 240.

Vons joins the nation's leading supermarket and drug store chains that are using Checkpoint's RF EAS systems because of the growth of RF source tagging, said Kevin Dowd, president and CEO of Checkpoint. "Our drug store customers have made significant inroads with their vendors to source tag a wide range of product categories, many of which are sold in supermarkets as well," said Mr. Dowd.
