Checkpoint Systems' Boosts Intelligent Library System Market Share With Five New Contracts.

Checkpoint Systems, Inc., (NYSE: CKP), the leading provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to libraries, has recently been awarded contracts to install its RFID-based Intelligent Library System(TM) (ILS) in five more libraries. Checkpoint has 74 ILS installations in the U.S. and Canada to date.

Checkpoint's new library clients include the Salt Lake City Public Library; MiraCosta College Library (MiraCosta, CA); West Bloomfield Township Public Library (West Bloomfield, MI); Warner Baird District Library (Spring Lake, MI); and Terrebonne Parish Library (Terrebonne Parish, LA).

These libraries join the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Library, the Rockefeller University Library, the University of Connecticut's Homer Babbidge Library and the Cerritos Millennium Library in Cerritos, California, as well as many others that have installed Checkpoint's ILS System.

The Intelligent Library System(TM) speeds up the materials check-out process by providing a swift, one-step motion for issuing materials, simultaneously updating the information into the library's circulation system and electronically activating security. After installing the ILS system, libraries have realized significant operational improvements by reducing materials handling time by as much as 75%. The ILS also allows for individual self check-in and check-out, built-in security, circulation management, and efficient inventory, all integrated into one system.

Salt Lake City Public Library -- Nancy Tessman, Director of the 600,000-volume public library, says, "the ILS offered us so many ways to improve client service and increase operational efficiency, it will transform the way both our employees and patrons use our library." Salt Lake City library personnel decided to replace their existing system with the ILS and plan to expand the system to the library's four other branches in the future.

MiraCosta College Library - Vicki Krivoski, Library Operations Supervisor of this 550,000-volume academic library, is excited that the ILS will reduce the time her staff must devote to inventory control and checking books in and out. "The ILS will free librarians to devote more time to sharing their valuable expertise with students," she said.

West Bloomfield Township Public Library - This suburban Detroit library is replacing their current system with the ILS. Clara Bohrer, Director, said the decision to do so was "an easy one as it became apparent how greatly the ILS would improve inventory efficiency and speed the circulation process."

Warner Baird Township Public Library - Among the many features of the ILS that led to its installation, Claire Sheridan, Director, cites "the ability to check out more than one book at a time" as a stand-out feature. A new library facility will be completed in the near future, and as Ms. Sheridan says, "we wanted only the best technology for our new facility."

Terrebonne Parish Library - The staff of this small-town Louisiana library wanted to be able to increase their efficiency and gain access to the best library security technology available. After touring other libraries that had already installed the ILS, library personnel decided the ILS would be a perfect fit for their library, making them the second public library in Louisiana to adopt the system. The ILS employs a single technology supporting both materials handling and security applications, and is based on technology developed by Checkpoint specifically for libraries. It functions via a unique RFID circulation circuit(TM) embedded inside the collections. This circuit operates within its own local network (LAN) of RFID readers placed at appropriate locations throughout the library, including the library entry/exit where it functions as a security alert, triggering an alarm when books are removed from the library without permission.
