Checkpoint System's RFID Technology Selected by Unique ID for Media Asset Tracking.

Checkpoint Systems, Inc. Unique ID has signed a worldwide Value Added Reseller (VAR) agreement for Checkpoint's RFID technology.

Checkpoint's RFID technology will be used by Unique ID for the CakeS system, which is a state-of-the-art solution for providing complete asset tracking for video media. RFID technology will provide the system with a hands-free method of uniquely identifying and tracking specific videotapes, including the ability to read multiple items simultaneously through the plastic ejected from video tape recorders. The tracking system identifies videotapes as they are inserted and ejected from video tape recorders (VTRs) and with the incorporation of the Performa products will now include new doorway monitoring capability and wireless stock casing of tapes. The system is particularly useful in tape libraries to aid in dispatch and to reduce shipping errors. The new system will be introduced at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2000 show, booth no. T2633. NAB 2000 is being held at the Las Vegas Sands Convention Center from April 10-13.

RFID technology combines an intelligent chip with a radio frequency antenna to deliver a smart label capable of storing, processing and communicating information while simultaneously providing enhanced security features.

CakeS utilizes a patent protected process to create a media database automatically when playing videotapes, and associate the media database with the source tape. Checkpoint's Performa technology will aid this process by providing accurate, flexible and cost effective tagging and reader solutions for both proximity reading at the VTR as well as for identifying items at the doorways.
