Check Point Delivers New High Performance Power-1 Appliances to Secure Global Enterprises.

New solutions provide customers with greater deployment flexibility of Check Point award-winning security software

REDWOOD CITY Redwood City, city (1990 pop. 66,072), seat of San Mateo co., W Calif., on San Francisco Bay; inc. 1868. Manufactures include commmunications, electrical, electronic, and medical equipment. , Calif. -- Check Point[R] Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:CHKP CHKP Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (stock abbreviation, AMEX) ), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced the launch of Check Point Power-1[TM], a new line of Internet security ''This article or section is being rewritten at

Internet security is the process of protecting data and privacy of devices connected to internet from information robbery, hacking, malware infection and unwanted software.
appliances offering high-performance sites a simple, robust, and easy to manage security solution with the best price/performance ratio In economics and engineering, the price/performance ratio refers to a product's ability to deliver performance, of any sort, for its price. For instance, if you have a whole day to travel 100 km, spending $50 to do the journey in two hours is a better price/performance ratio than  available. Power-1 appliances combine firewall, IPSec, virtual private network (VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks. ) and intrusion prevention See IPS and IDS.  with advanced acceleration technologies, delivering a high-performance security platform for multi-Gbps environments.

"We are committed to providing our customers high performing security solutions," said Dorit Dor, vice president of products at Check Point. "Power-1 provides customers the flexibility to combat malicious applications and threats while maintaining predictably high speeds. With the new appliances, tight security does not come at the expense of network performance."

Record price to performance ratio

Power-1 appliances provides performance up to 14 Gbps firewall throughput, delivering the most cost-efficient firewall for high performance environments - a price/performance ratio under $4 per Mbps. With a 6.1 Gbps intrusion prevention speed, customers also gain the ability to stop application layer threats at industry-leading speeds. Consequently, organizations facing application security threats, such as worms or buffer overflows, will be able to stop them while maintaining high performance for business critical applications. Since advanced acceleration technologies are built into the software, customers can also receive performance improvements without upgrading hardware.

"With the introduction of Power-1, customers get great price/performance ratio in a high-performance appliance based on Check Point's award-winning security software," said Tim Richardson Tim Richardson, author of Sweets: The History of Temptation, is the world's first international confectionery historian. He also writes about gardens, landscape and theatre, and contributes to the Daily Telegraph, Country Life, The Idler, , network and security solutions product manager at Akibia. "Power-1 adds to the wide variety of appliance options provided by Check Point Open Choice and enables customers to find an appliance solution that matches their exact needs, maximizing the value of their security investment."

Streamlined deployment and upkeep

As a security solution from a single vendor, Power-1 provides a simpler and quicker deployment experience for customers. New security protections and product updates can be easily installed as needed as needed prn. See prn order.  so businesses get the latest security deployed quickly.

Single console, seamless deployment

Multiple Power-1 appliances can be centrally managed with other Check Point security gateways through a single console, thus simplifying network security management and reducing administrative costs administrative costs,

. The console simplifies the management of complex architectures found in high performance environments. In addition, it provides a single interface for managing firewall, VPN, and intrusion prevention as well as analytical and monitoring capabilities.

As sites increase in complexity or in size, their environments will require security appliances with more ports and higher performance. The two new Check Point Power-1 appliance models provide the ability to meet all levels of complexity. They include the:

* Power-1 5070, combining accelerated performance with attractive price, features 9 Gbps of firewall throughput, up to 14 ports, a removable hard-drive, and dual hot-swappable power supply

* Power-1 9070, the flagship model, features 14 Gbps of firewall throughput, up to 18 ports, dual removable hard-drives and dual hot-swappable power-supply

Both Power-1 models include the following security components:

* Industry-leading firewall, VPN and integrated intrusion prevention

* High availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue. , load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them , and dynamic routing The ability for a router to forward data via a different route based on the current conditions of the communications circuits. For example, it can adjust for overloaded traffic or failing lines and is much more flexible than static routing, which uses a fixed forwarding path.  for data center reliability levels

* Security acceleration to block application-layer threats -- such as worms, buffer overflows and malware -- at multi-Gbps speeds

* SmartDefense[R] services available through subscription to protect against emerging threats

* Web application firewall and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  VPN can be added through licensing

* Optional UTM (Unified Threat Management) Refers to a stand-alone appliance or a software package that combines a firewall, antivirus, spam and content filtering as well as intrusion detection. See firewall, antivirus, antispam and IDS.  capabilities, including antivirus and anti-spyware, Web filtering Blocking access to unwanted Internet content. Businesses can block content based on traffic type. For example, Web access might be allowed, but file transfers may not. Content can also be blocked by site, using lists of URLs cataloged by content that are updated frequently. , Web application security, and messaging security

Check Point Power-1 expands the Open Choice available for Check Point customers. Check Point customers can run the full scale of Check Point solutions from sub-$500 home-office devices all the way to 40Gbps performance models using a single architecture, a single management console A terminal or workstation used to monitor and control a network. See Microsoft Management Console.  and run on hardware from variety of vendors including Check Point, Nokia, Crossbeam, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Sun and any other open server vendors.

In a related press release, Check Point also announced three new UTM-1[R] appliances for enterprise sites of all sizes. UTM-1 appliances combine Check Point's leading application and network-layer firewall, site-to-site and remote access VPN, gateway antivirus and anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, Web filtering and comprehensive messaging security. Together, these two announcements illustrate the company's breadth of appliance-based security solutions tailored to fit the needs of all-sized businesses.

Concluded Dor, "Our Power-1 appliances protect customers' networks at unprecedented performance levels with the latest award-wining Check Point security technology."
