The former Army major tried to sell a pair of coveted Centre Court tickets on the black market via the eBay auction website.

But tournament organisers the All England Club exposed his scheme and forced him to hand them back.

Ingram, 41, who was convicted of conspiracy for trying to cheat his way to a million on the TV show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, had won the tickets in a public ballot.

Touts have previously sold tickets like Ingram had, for the second week of the tournament, for hundreds of pounds. Face value is around pounds 60 per ticket.

An All England Club spokesman said yesterday: 'We can confirm Charles Ingram has been found in breach of our regulations concerning the sale of tickets.

'We have continually warned people not to buy or sell tickets on internet auction sites. This is against regulations.'

The organisers' investigation also turned up another 29 would-be touts.

Ingram, who received an 18month suspended sentence A sentence given after the formal conviction of a crime that the convicted person is not required to serve.
