by your co-workers, you may be heading to your PC for a quick search at Monster.Com. But have no fear. If I may paraphrase my third grade teacher, "Always remember the five P's: proper preparation prevents poor performance." If you stick to this formula you can minimize the collateral damage collateral damage Surgery A popular term for any undesired but unavoidable co-morbidity associated with a therapy–eg, chemotherapy-induced CD to the BM and GI tract as a side effect of destroying tumor cells  to your professional reputation.

First and foremost, be honest. Too often clients neglect to show the mover the full inventory of items to be relocated. This is a definite no-no! Despite their appearance, most of the individuals tallying your goods do know how to count. This ploy will only cost you more money in the long run.

The next common faux paus is not having a clear understanding of the scope of the project. Who packs what? What carpentry work is to be performed? Are there any post-move services? Always clear this up, in writing, prior to negotiating a final agreement.

Like any other vendor, the mover equates time with money. Along with this time and money equation is the cost for any additional services you ask for. What if your boss, Mr./Mrs. Big Shot, wants the mover to pack and then unpack See pack.  his or her entire office? They may decide otherwise after getting a bill for $600. After all, they can probably get an underling to do it for free! Always have a written document stating what rates and material charges will apply for the duration of your project.

Another area that is a continued source of consternation is the freight elevator. It is the company's responsibility to ensure that it is reserved, is in good repair and 100% available to the mover. And remember: movers don't like to share. If the building has double booked the elevator, expect to see additional charges on your bill.

I will now address the key aspect of this entire soliloquy soliloquy, the speech by a character in a literary composition, usually a play, delivered while the speaker is either alone addressing the audience directly or the other actors are silent. . Whom do I choose? The simple and absolute worst (but most common!), decision making tool is cost. As dear old dad used to say "Cheap Is Expensive." Ask yourself: Do I want to hire the vendor whose suit is made of the same material as his moving cartons just to save $500 on a $5,000 project? Unfortunately, it happens all the time. Like a date, spend a little time with your perspective vendor. Can you stand talking to Noun 1. talking to - a lengthy rebuke; "a good lecture was my father's idea of discipline"; "the teacher gave him a talking to"

If you hesitate to say yes, continue your search till you eventually locate Mr./Mrs. Right.
