Chateau was more 'Limpney' for me.Byline: JASON'S CARVING FROM the outside, Chateau Impney Chateau Impney is an imposing 19th century house built in the style of an elaborate French chateau near Droitwich Spa, in Worcestershire England. It was built for local industrialist John Corbett in the style of a Louis XIII French chateau for Corbett's wife, Hannah Eliza looks like a fairytale hotel fit for a king. [So-called because many of the buildings of such universities were built of red bricks. building stands in acres of lush land and it looks like the dream destination for a wedding. Unfortunately, when I visited Jason's Carving Room on a Sunday evening with my pal Steven, there was nothing regal about the food or the service. At just pounds 14.99 for three courses per person, it's a real bargain. The prices vary depending on what day you dine, and at what time. When Steven and I arrived the restaurant was half-empty and staff were hardly rushed off their feet. A polite waitress came over immediately to take our order. We both went for prawn cocktail prawn cocktail prawn n → cocktail m de crevettes , and ordered our drinks at the same time. He still holds the UK record. must have been working in the kitchen, because within three minutes our starters were brought out to us in small steel cups. I needed to wash my rose marie sauce-smothered prawns with iceberg lettuce down with a drink, but realised there was no sign of the wine we had ordered. There was no sign of a waitress either, so I carried on with my 1970sstyle starter, which was served with a slice of buttered granary bread. It was only when she appeared to collect our dishes that I asked where our drinks were. She told me they were on their way... "maybe". To kill some time, Steven and I went up to the carvery carvery Noun pl -veries a restaurant where customers pay a set price for unrestricted helpings of carved meat and other food to sort out our Sunday roast. There was a choice of pork, turkey and beef, along with boiled and roasted potatoes, carrots, peas, cauliflower cauliflower (kô`lĭflou'ər, käl`ĭ–), variety of cabbage, with an edible head of condensed flowers and flower stems. Broccoli is the horticultural variety (botrytis); both were cultivated in Roman times. , Yorkshire puddings, gravy, sausages and stuffing. It was a generous spread. But it certainly didn't taste as good as it looked. I went for the turkey, which was so dry is seemed to suck all the moisture out of my mouth. Luckily, our drinks arrived belatedly to fix that problem. The Yorkshire puddings were soggy and looked a bit old. So did the roast potatoes. I passed on the boiled potatoes because they always remind me of school dinners. The stuffing seemed to be meatbased, but I wasn't sure exactly what meat and it tasted bitter. Steven wasn't too keen on the pork but, after tasting a piece, I thought it was certainly better than the turkey. The gravy was so watery it disappeared into the vegetables. Still, at least the carrots, peas, cauliflower and sausages were winners. Pudding was a range of synthetic gateaux and cheesecakes on a trolley - like something out of Fawlty Towers. I went for the lemon cake while Steven opted for the chocolate gateau. The portions were huge and I had mine with ice cream. But I'll probably head to my local Toby Carvery next time I fancy a big Sunday dinner, this Chateau was more "Limpney" for me.
