Mayor Menino Announces City's First WiFi Pilot Project

ATLANTA -- Charys Holding Company, Inc. ("Charys") (OTCBB:CHYS), today announced that its Charys Technology Group subsidiary ("CTG") has been selected to build and operate the first wireless broadband network for the city of Boston's WiFi project. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino today announced that the city's wireless initiative will begin work immediately on its first demonstration program, a square-mile network in Roxbury's Grove Hall and Dudley Square neighborhoods.

The Mayor and his task force have selected a team of companies led by Charys Technology Group to plan and deploy this initial pilot network in Boston. CTG will provide the project management, integration services, construction and operations of the network, teaming with US Internet, DT Net and BelAir Networks along with MetroNext and Gigabeam. This initial WiFi network, covering approximately one square mile within the city, will form the beginning of the entire citywide wireless network. Planning and construction for the pilot network is scheduled to commence within the next few weeks.

Boston is taking a bold new approach in shaping its future by forming a nonprofit agency to develop and operate a citywide high-speed wireless network. Mayor Menino formed the nonprofit group to spearhead the effort to bring broadband Internet service to all areas of Boston. The organization will be the ultimate owner of the network. The goal, as set forth by Mayor Menino, is threefold: To close the digital divide, to encourage economic development and to improve city services.

Mayor Menino said, "the Grove Hall and Dudley Square initiative, which is really a network, not just a hot spot, sends a clear message to the neighborhoods that bringing service to everyone is our number one priority."

"Building an actual neighborhood network so quickly would not have been possible without the support of these companies and Local 103," noted Pam Reeve, a former software executive who was named by Menino in July to serve as interim chief executive of the wireless initiative. Reeve said installation of the equipment is expected to begin later this year.
