Charter of Democracy is merely an agreement , not part of constitution: Taseer.

ISLAMABAD, October 19, 2009 (Frontier Star): Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has said that Charter of Democracy (CoD) was merely an agreement, and not a part of Constitution. In an interview to Private TV Channel, Salman Taseer while replying to a question regarding the differences with Punjab government over the appointment of the judges in Punjab, Salman Taseer said that it has been clearly said in the constitution of Pakistan that Executive has no role in the appointment of the judges. As a far as CoD is concern it is simply a accord or an agreement not part of constitution, he added. Salman Taseer has said that population of Punjab Province was more than 80 million and it far big province as compared to European countries. He said that transfer of power to gross root level was the manifesto of PPPP and was in favour of both people of the province and Pakistan. Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer said that PML-N and other political parties had taken out protest rally and procession for the independence of Judiciary but none of the incident of highhanded on behalf of police at lawyers or at workers of any political party had been reported. Salman Taseer said that police used tear gas and baton charge when protests tried to take law into their hands, and assured that police have no such directives to fire or harass the peaceful protestors. In response to a question regarding amendment in blasphemous law, he said that he had simply given a proposal for the amendment in the blasphemous law and the rest of the political parties must also share their opinion in this connection.
